International vocational education and training

At different levels ibw makes a substantial contribution to European projects related to research on education and training. We regularly take part in EU projects as a partner or coordinator. In addition, we contribute our expertise to working groups of the European Commission for designing European education projects.

As a cooperation partner of the EU’s Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) we describe the VET system and educational policies implemented in Austria and, in this way, facilitate the transnational comparison.

    Die Erhöhung der Anzahl an Hochschulabsolvent/innen ist seit Jahren eine bildungspolitische Priorität. In der Tat zeigen die Bildungsstatistiken der letzten Jahre einen deutlichen Anstieg an Absolvent/innen tertiärer Bildungsprogramme. Diese Entwicklung wird als „Akademisierung“ bezeichnet. Der vorliegende Artikel zeigt anhand von Beispielen aus Deutschland, Österreich und Frankreich, dass die Interpretation der Statistiken zwei wesentliche Punkte außer Acht lässt. Erstens, dass akademische Studiengänge oftmals auch berufliches Lernen integrieren und zweitens, dass es berufliche Programme im tertiären Bildungssektor gibt, die in den internationalen Bildungsstatistiken nicht adäquat abgebildet werden.
