Evaluierung der Lehrstellenförderung des AMS Österreich

    Endbericht

    ibw-öibf-Bericht, Wien, 2017

The AMS subsidisation scheme for in-company training places (“Lehrstellenförderung”) proves to be a truly effective and efficient instrument to support young people at a disadvantage and place them in an apprenticeship. The long-term and sustainable (labour market policy) success is also due to the fact that the importance and significance of a completed apprenticeship training programme for the learners’ fur-ther professional career is very high and that the costs of this AMS subsidisation scheme per funded person, for example, only amount to a fraction of the costs for a supra-company apprenticeship post.
These are key results of the “Evaluation of the AMS subsidisation scheme for in-company training places” (ibw-öibf study commissioned by Public Employment Service Austria or Arbeitsmarktservice Österreich (AMS)). As part of this study, ibw surveyed all apprenticeship graduates and dropouts from 2008 to 2014 re-garding their use of the AMS subsidisation scheme as well as regarding their training success and (subse-quent) labour market success (ibw apprenticeship graduate monitoring).

    Lehrlingsausbildung im Überblick 2017

    Strukturdaten, Trends und Perspektiven

    ibw-Forschungsbericht Nr. 190, Wien, 2017
    Dornmayr H., Nowak S.

The previous prolonged decline in the number of apprentices and training companies (which was mainly due to demographic reasons) has now been stopped, at least among apprenticeship beginners. The training success of apprentices very much depends on their previous education, the place (town or countryside), their nationality, the sector and the size of the training company. Their subsequent success on the labour market is also influenced greatly by regional factors. These and many other aspects related to apprenticeship training in Austria and in a European comparison are explored in the latest issue of the ibw publication “Survey of Apprenticeship Training”, which comes out every year (with funding provided by the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy BMWFW and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber WKO) and provides an overview of currently available statistical data on apprenticeship training in Austria.
